This Is Due To Their Low Cost For The Pump, They Have A Long Life And The Replacement Parts Are The Least Expensive Of The 3 Types.

The 2 Speed Pumps Have A Very Low Speed Used For Circulating The Water Only And A High Speed About Equal To The Single Speed Pumps Used For When The Pool Cleaner, Or Waterfall, Or Solar Is Running. When On High Speed, They Use More Power Than The Energy Efficient Single Speed Pumps. On Low Speed, They Use Very Little Power, However Since The Pump Is Running So Slow, You Must Extend The Running Time To Circulate The Same Amount Of Water As The Single Speed Pump. The 2 Speed Motor Is More Expensive Than The Single Speed Pump And The 2 Speed Requires A Special Timer Or Control Box To Run The Pump.

The Variable Speed Pump Is The Newest Style. They Use A Control System To Allow The Pump To Run At Many Speeds. Some Even Have A Permanent Magnet Motor, Like In Hybrid Cars To Allow For Great Efficiency. These Pumps Work Great For People Who Have Water Features Or Solar Due To Some Variable Speeds Allowing For Multiple Programming Speeds.
There Are Some Downsides To This Pump However, It Is The Most Expensive Type Of Pump By A Large Margin, The Replacement Motors On The Permanent Motor Are Very Expensive, Electronics Can Fail. These Pumps Due Not Have The Best Track Record.
